Urban approach
The project stands as a signal. Pavment and highline meets each other in the project describing
vertical loops. The treatment is similar to the highline : a footpath surrounded by plants
and flowers.
The vertical walk ends in a public garden around a slop designed as a vine yard. Then the
project draws vertical loops from a public playround (ground floor) to a public garden.
New York spirit invade the whole project : you can pratice sport all over the year on the shelltered
public playground which can also be used as a farmar market spot. The iconic figure
that is now the highline raise into the urban farm. The facade draws line that in some points
evoques the little Italy spaghettis, the subway lines, the New York pace and some graffiti writings
upon a walls.
Architectural approach
Two main elements are organising the whole project.
The inhabited loops shelter a waling path on its top and living/working/eating/celebrating
spaces in its thickness. Green houses and enclosures provides cumminity gardens, where the
inhabitants can grow their own food. Green houses are also sheltering private entrances to the
living/working/eating/celebrating spaces. From east to South and West, housing and their own
garden. North side is more technical with vertical circulations (lift and freight elevator) some
laboratories The main facade sees its outlining, on 4th and 6th loops, compressed in order to
provide natural light to the central cultures.
The farming atrium is the center pieces around which the whole project turns. Ground floor
is dedicated to services, storage (production brought by northen freight elevator), bike park
and a sports playground used weekly as a farmar market. As you elevates and see the central
atrium, unclosed but supervized cultures could create jobs, you meet suspended intensive
culture pots. Climbing culture (tomatoes, hop poles …) are located right under the vine yard
wher you can have glass of New York City own wine.
PERMACULTURE PRINCIPLES

2 LESS INTENSIVELY MANAGED AREAS
3 OCCASIONAL VISITED AREAS THAT STILL FORM PART OF THE SYSTEM

Permaculture
Clever principles of urban farming and permaculture organise the project. The pubic space
is organised according to the dimensions of the food system from land to waste. As a result,
linkages in the local food chain are becoming stronger in concert with a growing consumer
demand for local and sustainably grown food. Although it is not expected that these farmsEducation
is also everywhere in the building, watching a farm at work has never been so easy
New York City. If urban farming organise the whole building, life in it is zoned according to
permaculture principles.
Zoning in permaculture design refers to a method of ensuring that elements are correctly
placed. Zoning is about correct placement- positioning things in ways that are the most appropriate;
Zones are numbered from 0 to 5, and can be thought of as a series of concentric
rings moving out from a centre point, where human activity and need for attention is most
concentrated, to where there is no need for intervention at all...
